Meals on Wheels

So my Thanksgiving is being defined by the amount of hours I am working.  It was to my surprise and delight that I got a text from shush now stating she was bringing me food.
Lindsey and our friend Megan and their youngest came and brought goodies (which were yummy), and hung out and talked for a while, which was great!
It's good to have friends that care.
And are handy in the kitchen 🙂

Weekend update

Ok, so I left you mid way through the week of classes.
Class was interesting.  The three highlights?
Creating a 'themed' menu for Rusty Shackleford's seafood restaurant.  (Props if you can figure out the reference).
Having an instructor who loved boxers and therefore thought Toby was a gem.  And he is. He is the most adorable and

sarcastic dog ever

Third highlight.  At the end of the week of classes the instructor took me aside and told me he really appreciated my insight, and what I had brought to the table that week.  I thought it was rather sweet.  Then he said it out loud to the whole class that he really appreciated what I had contributed and the insight I had brought.  He didn't single anyone else out like that (except for thanking the two guys he picked on for being such good sports).  I was pretty nonplussed.  I didn't think I brought too terrible much.  Made me feel good though.

Then came the fun!
I had a wonderfully time with JennyExiled and Kelly.  If you don't know them you should.  They are swell.  We had good talks, good bonding with Sam, 5 (I'm sticking by my number ladies) cosmo's each, and FABU sushi!  Plus 'Weeds' so how can you go wrong.  Then Kelly and I had a wonderful and long and meaty conversation on the phone which helped keep me awake on the way to see Artzy Carmen.  BTW we did go see Kelly's place of work, and walked in a circle like 5 times.  We met 3 people that are Sam's favorite person in the world. And you can see the great pics of us on Jenny's Vox.

I spent the rest of the weekend with Carmen, her husband, and two lovely dogs.  I was very impressed with the view and the KITCHEN was phenomenal.  So clear that it had a lot of sweat equity.  Well done.

Plus we got to sing together, which was exciting, and also just be, and talk about life, and where we are, and what is holding us back, and politics, and music, and Zion, and knowing who you're meant to be.  It was good.  I miss that.

Then I drove home, stopping to sleep in Ohio, and went directly to my mentoring group, then to momentum, then to my friend Margaret's house for an all night LOTR marathon. YES the extended versions.  Caught a few hrs of sleep, went to book club, and finally, to bed around 6 on Tuesday eve.  Back now to the grindstone for me.

I will probably have to fire the new guy I had hired to replace the Woman I had to fire.  He's not doing his job, and creating quite a stir with other employees, and sleeping on the job!
Having a good weekend with laura. Buying some business casual items of clothing, and eating good mexican food.  I also descended further into geekdom with a substantial comic book purchase.  Yes, the ginger sister is now the proud owner of all but two of the Battlestar Galactica (new series) comic books.  This is to add to my Angel (season 6) and Buffy (season 8) series.  Oh  wait…does Asterix count as a comic book?  If so my geek descent time line is going to have to change.
Today I got 12 hrs of sleep, even though it sounds decadent….let me give you the run up to that.
Started work at 7 am friday, worked til 3, got a nap of about 2 hrs. Went to small group ( they kazoo'd me for my birthday, VERY HILARIOUS! Plus I got some funny, and sweet cards, I felt very loved)  Then I went to work all night, good thing too, as the hospital had 2 call off's already that night.  I got home, took a bath, then Laura and i went and got pedicures, and then went to a baby shower (long! and we were late!) then went home and Laura had presents for the girls in our house.  Liliput and Mei-mei loved them.  Then we went out to eat at Fiesta Tapatia–delicious mexican food–and renewed our deep seeded revulsion (or is it deep seated revulsion, my syntax editor is refusing to work this am) for shopping malls. The smell of commerce in the afternoon really makes one quite nauseous.  We went home, ordered food, started watching some tv, and them my body started to just fade at the seams.  So I went to bed around 11.
Yeah, 12 hours of sleep was warranted.
Tonight I have to work again.
I think I'm going to get some good steak dinner before I go.
Highlights…I bought a purse made from recycled rice bags.  It has a shrimp and a fish on it, and it says the word "dang"  its from Cambodia.  I got it here Ten Thousand VIllages.  For those of you who don't know.  I'm kind of a unique purse fiend.  Currently I have a tin purse that has the Wizard of Oz witches on it and asks the question "are you a good witch or a bad witch? Christmas present from the bro.  My all time fave's would have to be, the one that looked like a 6 pack of coke, the one that looked like a mini carpet bag, and the one that looked like 'Shaun' from Wallace and Grommit.
Ohh, rabbit trail much?
Mum and Dad forgot my birthday…combination of age and distance…I am over 3500 miles from them (hopefully to be rectified this summer!) For my birthday I want them to get their dual citizenship, as that will help my whole immigration process.
I almost fell asleep mid pedicure.
Laura is kicking my ass at 5 crowns as we speak.
I get to go to DC in a few weeks, see my uncle and aunt, see Kelly, and Artzy Carmen, and take a class for work, get my CHA license, (however the books I have to study are killing me with the boredom!)
Must go and read.
And try and beat Laura.

I was away at a conference this weekend, which made me rather incommunicado.  So I'm trying to catch up.  The conference in and of itself was REALLY INTERESTING.  A comment which would be much better understood if I had in my employ my brilliant but unrealized vision of having a Universal Sarcastic Font.  You know I could have just pushed ctrl + Y (for yada yada yada) and presto, REALLY INTERESTING would have been written in a font that would have made the true meaning clear.  You would have read REALLY INTERESTING, and understood it to mean mind numbingly dull, boring, poke out my eyes with a stick, damn I forgot my knitting in the car… now how am i supposed to stay awake, ugh one more powerpoint presentation, seriously if I sat through all of this surely I should have won the Iphone.  But sadly, I have yet to invent the USF, and probably never will, as bitching about it not being in existence is so much fun.  Son of a motherless goat…I really need that font!

Ok so there were some good times…wanna hear em?  Here they go:
-Meeting up with Evelyn, and the yummy Singapore noodles avec sake at P.F. Changs.
-3 days with Grace and Glory.  They made me yummy Nigerian food, and we had some fab conversations about raising children, discipline, singlehood, faith, church, life, school, moving, trips home, family, shoes.  Plus, Glory played with my hair, which was fab.  Future husband alert…this will be your job, often!  We also did a fun Target run, and glory fell in love with my amazing lemon pound cake scented lotion.  MMMMM.
-Driving with the windows down and the sunroof up cranking Muse in the streets of Indianapolis.

04 Map Of The Problematique 03 Supermassive Black Hole

-Getting to see Kyle.  Man the kid has grown up.  I really am pleased how he's thriving at university.
-AMBER AND MATT, and ASS.  Yes, good times.  Great conversation, and Amaretto Sour Saturdays.  ASS involves a theme, a mixed drink, and all kinds of good stuff, including good wine and munchies.  This month it was Fall ASS and so we had this great hot spiced spiked cider, MMMM.  It also included good conversations, like about how good 'The Fountain' was, and about 'Arcade Fire' and then Matt surprised me by declaring that he didn't understand why the Peter Gabriel song 'In Your Eyes' was used in the movie 'Say Anything' and I had to explain the significance of  Lloyd Daubler, and that song.

I think I was able to persuade him to movie this slightly more in the direction of Iconic.  Ahh Lloyd, bought, sold, processed……OOHHH I digress.  We had some fun comedy, and Matt unsuccessfully tried to convince the populace to watch Shaun of the dead.
-Finishing Season 3 of the office.  OH JIM!  OH PAM!

Then came the challenges, mainly consisting of my moms closet from the seventies being remixed by a bunch of skinny white girls, and then being thrown up inside Lane Bryant stores nation wide.  More than once did I try something on and see a very scary version of my mum from childhood looking back at me. FACT, sleeveless doesn't work for me, neither does balloon shirts.  Oh and belts across my midriff also are no good, and PLEASE PLEASE go back to straight sizes, and forget this 16/18 nonsense.  Slashes are no good. I know I'm fat, but there is no reason to make me dress like a baboon.

Well, today I found out that my sister was in an accident.  She was riding her bike home from work, and a car hit her, and sent her sprawling.  She's bruised, and scraped, but otherwise unharmed.  Poor Beth!

Anyway I'm home now, back to work, and now beginning to train the second new person.  I just need one more, then I'm fully staffed again! We'll see how that works out!
